BIS Salamis celebrate OGUK Safety Awards victory
BIS Salamis is celebrating success after Oil & Gas UK and Step Change in Safety awarded Victoria Lee, Trainee HSEQ Advisor, with the Most Promising Individual accolade at the first UK Oil and Gas Safety Awards, sponsored by Maersk Oil.
The lunchtime event took place at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen and welcomed professionals from across the industry to honour and celebrate exemplary behaviour by individuals and companies in creating a safety first culture.
Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK, said, "Safety is a job never done and we constantly need to strive to improve and reduce the risk to those working in our industry to the absolute minimum. To achieve this, it is vital that we learn from each other, share best practice and take new ideas and initiatives back into our own individual companies. This is why the UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards were created; to honour our high performers and, most importantly, to provide a platform to share their achievements and best practice with the wider industry."
Overall, 91 nominations have been received for the five award categories of safety leadership, safety representative of the year, preventative safety action, most promising individual and innovation in safety.
As winner of the Most Promising Individual category, sponsored by Drager, this award recognises Victoria's enthusiasm and keen interest in safety matters and her commitment to support the strong safety culture that is promoted in the oil and gas industry.
This achievement comes shortly after BIS Salamis reports its best safety performance in over 5 years with over a 63% reduction in recordable incidents in 2009. Mike Main, Managing Director at BIS Salamis, told this was a fantastic achievement for the company and said, "At BIS Salamis we promote a strong HSEQ culture. This recent achievement recognises not only our commitment to the Step Change initiative but also the strong calibre of our personnel.
"During Victoria's time at BIS Salamis, we have been continually impressed by her enthusiasm to gain knowledge of safety matters first hand. We are delighted to have support from members of our team such as Victoria to help us work towards a shared goal of making the UK the safest place to work in the worldwide oil and gas sector. Congratulations to Victoria and all the other winners announced at the awards ceremony."
